How is it working out for you?
According to some estimates, businesses in the USA are sitting on a record $3 trillion in cash. Yes, you read that right, $3 trillion! I personally know the CEO of a major regional mechanical contractor, who told me that his company is sitting on $15 million in cash and has a $50 million dollar line of credit that they have not even touched. The question is why aren’t these companies investing in projects?
The answer is simple, really. Businesses have no idea what the cost of doing business is going to be in the future. With a plethora of new taxes, regulations, healthcare costs, etc., rather than hiring new full time employees, investing capital in equipment, machinery and other products and services that would help the economy, they are sitting tight. They are hiring temporary help, instead of full time workers. This is America, they have that right. You didn’t think that it’s all about you, did you? I feel sorry for anyone who feels that a job is a right, not a privilege. They are in for a rude awakening. However, with the “entitlement mindset” that the country is in, lots of folks seem to think that things, including employment, are their right. Well, it’s a brave new world. Welcome to it.
Did you know that before the industrial revolution, the majority of people were self employed? And not because they had a choice in the matter. There was no other way to make a living. The blacksmith, the storekeeper, the barber, etc. And yes, the seamstress, guindaste probably one of the original home business ideas. This was before the corporation came along and promised they it would “take care of you.” Hang out for 30-40 years,we’ll give you a gold watch and a pension. After, of course, working you to near death over that time. As you are probably aware, those days are gone, and they ain’t coming back.
So, what are your options? Wait until the economy picks up? That’s an idea. But ask yourself this: Now that business has figured out how to do the job with fewer people, how many of those jobs are coming back? Why hire full time employees when technology and part time help can get the job done?
Now, the good news. You do have options. It may require a shift or two in your thinking, and it will require courage, but guess what? It’s your time. It’s been said that in the next ten years the majority of millionaires with be created in the home business and direct sales industries. And it has been proven that in economic down times people flock to the direct sales industry to earn extra cash.
